Ghana’s economy was better under my gov’t
Former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, is claiming that Ghana's economy grew by five folds in the eight years that he presided over the nation's affairs.
He said the unparalleled economic achievements under his tutelage reflected positively in the health of the nation and its people just as the policies of his forebear, former Prime Minister in the Second Republic, Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, whom he also described as his mentor, did.
He said: “Prof. Busia was my referee during my Oxford days and I also learnt a lot while serving in his government which had a positive impact on my leadership”.
The former Ghanaian leader made the comments on Adom TV's Badwam programme Monday.
He defended a statement he made last Friday at the centenary celebration of the late Dr K.A Busia in which he described him (Busia) as Elijah and himself as Elisha. He was criticized for the comment by some political opponents.
Mr. Kufuor, however, insisted that despite the wrong perception that a government could not achieve much in just four years; his administration took Ghana to another level in that time - from 2001 - 2004, just as Dr. Busia did in the less than three years that he stayed in office - 1969 to 1972.
